GOP Incumbents Auth and Azzariti Retain NJ Assembly Seats in Bergen County's 39th District
In Bergen County's 39th legislative district, incumbents Robert Auth and John Azzariti have secured re-election. The Republican pair, Auth from Old Tappan and Azzariti from Saddle River, faced a close challenge from the Democratic Party but ultimately retained their seats.
Auth, who has been in the Assembly since 2014, and Azzariti, since 2023, each received a similar share of the vote, with Auth at 25.9% and Azzariti at 25.6%. Their Democratic opponents, Andrew LaBruno and Donna Abene, trailed closely with 24.3% and 24.2% respectively. The gap between Azzariti and LaBruno for second place was a mere 2,436 votes.
The Democratic Party's performance in the 39th district was stronger than anticipated. They came closer to winning than in previous years, indicating a narrowing gap between the parties.
Auth and Azzariti's re-election demonstrates the Republican Party's strength in Bergen County's 39th district. Despite a close Democratic primary, where Donna Abene won by just 131 votes, the incumbents successfully defended their seats. Their victory comes after easily defeating primary challenger Frank Pallotta.
