Weekend crime spree leaves Bad Hersfeld reeling from thefts and vandalism
A series of thefts and vandalism incidents occurred across the Bad Hersfeld and Hersfeld-Rotenburg districts over the weekend. Between Friday, February 6, and Monday, February 9, police reported break-ins, stolen property, and criminal damage in multiple locations. Authorities are now searching for suspects linked to several cases.
The first incident took place on Friday afternoon, February 6, at around 5:35 p.m. A package was stolen from a mailbox on Hintergasse in Friedewald.
Later that evening, between 11:30 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. the following morning, a Ford Transit’s driver’s side window was smashed in Bad Hersfeld. Cash was taken from the glove compartment, though the exact amount was not disclosed. On Saturday, February 7, between 11:40 a.m. and 12:10 p.m., a 59-year-old woman had her wallet stolen near a supermarket on Erfurter Straße in Bad Hersfeld. Police described the suspect as a male, roughly 160–170 cm tall, wearing glasses, a cap, a beige or light brown winter jacket, and a gray or brown backpack. That same day, between 1:45 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, diesel fuel worth several hundred euros was stolen from an orange Scania tractor unit. The vehicle was parked at the Nadellöhr rest area between the Friedewald and Wildeck-Hönebach exits in Wildeck. On Sunday, February 8, between 7:55 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., a gray Opel Astra parked on Carl-Benz-Straße in Bad Hersfeld had its paintwork scratched. The damage was estimated at around €500. Meanwhile, a break-in at a commercial building on Rosental in the Weißenhasel district of Nentershausen occurred between Friday, February 6, at 2:30 p.m. and Monday, February 9, at 5:55 a.m. Two laptops were stolen, and roughly €200 worth of property damage was caused. Police believe two men of Eastern European appearance were responsible. The first suspect is described as 40–50 years old, about 180 cm tall, wearing a gray winter hat, a gray puffer jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers. The second is around 60 years old, roughly 170 cm tall, wearing a black flat cap, a black scarf, a brown jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes.
Police are investigating all incidents and have urged anyone with information to come forward. The total losses from thefts and damages amount to several thousand euros. Suspect descriptions have been released in the hope of identifying those responsible.
