Goslar races to draft its first climate-neutral heat plan by 2026
Goslar is preparing its first municipal heat plan to meet new federal requirements. The city must submit the strategy by the end of 2026 and achieve climate-neutral heating by 2040. Two specialist firms are now drafting the long-term blueprint for sustainable energy supply. The federal Heat Planning Act requires all German cities to develop heat transition plans. Goslar’s strategy will assess local demand, explore renewable energy options, and outline steps toward carbon-neutral heating. The Institute for Sustainable Energy Supply (INEV) and enersis europe GmbH have been commissioned to lead the process.
A public meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at 5:30 PM in the Council Chamber of Goslar’s historic town hall. Residents can attend without prior registration to learn about the ongoing work. Another information session is scheduled for mid-2024 to provide updates on the planning progress.
The completed heat plan must be finalised by December 31, 2026. Goslar’s transition to greenhouse-gas-neutral heating is expected to conclude by 2040. The city will continue engaging with residents as the strategy takes shape.
