Grauel’s veteran fire chief begins historic fifth term after unanimous vote
Jörg Rohweder has begun his fifth term as Grauel’s municipal fire chief after a unanimous vote. The election took place on January 17, 2025, with all 27 eligible members supporting his leadership. His long career with the volunteer fire department stretches back over three decades.
Rohweder first joined the Grauel Fire Department in 1989. By 1999, he had been elected group leader, and just two years later, he took on the role of municipal fire chief. His latest term follows a long tradition of service, though he remains behind Heinz-Werner Petersen, the longest-serving fire chief in the Mittelholstein district, who held the position for 40 years from 1985 to 2025.
The recent election also brought changes to other key roles. Nico Löding was appointed as the new group leader, while Jana Helmke became deputy group leader. Eick Gyroska took on the responsibilities of respiratory equipment officer and safety officer. Additionally, Janek Rohweder and Tom Holling were formally sworn in as firefighters after completing their probationary period.
With Rohweder’s re-election, the Grauel Volunteer Fire Department continues under experienced leadership. The new appointments fill critical roles within the team, ensuring the department remains well-structured. All changes took effect immediately following the January vote.
