Halle (Saale) advances Europachaussee highway expansion despite funding doubts
Halle (Saale) has taken a step forward in expanding the Europachaussee highway to Ammendorf. The city council recently approved plans to push the project ahead. However, funding remains uncertain as officials await budget approval from the State Administrative Office. The extension aims to ease traffic in residential zones and open up new commercial land. CDU politician Thomas Keindorf praised the move, calling it essential for local development. He stressed the need to keep residents informed and address their worries early on.
€15 million from the federal government’s special asset fund has been earmarked for the work. Yet doubts linger over whether extra money could come from standard subsidies. Keindorf also cautioned against adding red tape, warning that delays would hurt Halle’s economic growth.
The project now hinges on final budget approval from state authorities. If cleared, the funds will help extend the highway and support local businesses. Officials must still resolve how to combine different funding sources without unnecessary hold-ups.
