How Dr. Johannes Loheide reshaped Hesse's economic and innovation policies
Dr. Johannes Loheide, a 54-year-old expert in economic and innovation policy, has built a career at the intersection of business, politics, and public financing. Based in Frankfurt am Main with his partner and two children, he brings decades of experience to his field. Loheide started his professional journey with the city of Gießen before moving into European politics as an office director for a Member of the European Parliament. Later, he took on leadership roles in public finance, including heading the Policy and Strategy Division at the Economic and Infrastructure Bank of Hesse (WIBank).
During his tenure, he played a key role in merging Hesse’s development banks into WIBank and helped establish the HessenFonds. Most recently, he served as head of the Department of Economic Development and Technological Innovation at the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs. A trained social scientist, Loheide holds a doctorate from Justus Liebig University Giessen and Loughborough University. His career has included supervisory board positions, investor committee roles, and executive functions in state-owned investment firms.
