Hungary's New PM Péter Magyar Strengthens Ties with Kazakhstan's Tokayev
Hungary’s new government, led by Prime Minister Péter Magyar, officially began its work on May 9. The change follows the Tisza party’s victory in parliamentary elections held last month. Magyar has since engaged in diplomatic exchanges with international leaders, including Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. On April 12, Hungary held parliamentary elections, resulting in a win for Péter Magyar’s Tisza party. Shortly after, President Tokayev sent his congratulations to the newly elected leader.
Magyar responded with a formal letter of thanks. He acknowledged Tokayev’s message and highlighted Kazakhstan’s importance as a strategic partner in Central Asia. The Hungarian prime minister also pledged to deepen cooperation between the two nations. In his reply, Magyar extended an invitation to President Tokayev. He asked the Kazakh leader to attend commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
The exchange marks the start of Magyar’s diplomatic efforts as Hungary’s new prime minister. His invitation to Tokayev signals a focus on regional partnerships. The anniversary events later this year will likely feature high-level attendance from Central Asian allies.
