Illinois warns of Listeria outbreak tied to Daisy brand deli meat

Illinois officials have issued a warning about a Listeria outbreak linked to Daisy brand headcheese deli meat. The affected products were sold at various deli counters across Illinois and Indiana. Meanwhile, Chicago is in the spotlight as a potential host for the 2028 or 2032 Democrat National Convention after a successful 2024 event. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the USDA are investigating the Listeria contamination. Some batches of Daisy brand headcheese, purchased at multiple deli locations, are under scrutiny. Tests are still being carried out to assess how widespread the outbreak may be. Consumers can find more details about the recall online.

In separate news, the Democrat National Convention’s site selection committee visited Chicago this week. The city is being considered alongside Atlanta, Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia for the 2028 convention. Chicago’s 2024 DNC brought in £371 million for the local economy, boosting its chances for future events. On another front, U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth has backed a House bill allowing year-round sales of E-15 gasoline. She argues the move will support American farmers and reduce fuel costs for consumers. Duckworth criticised Republican leaders for previously removing a similar measure from the Farm Bill.

The Listeria warning remains active while investigations continue. Chicago’s bid for the 2028 or 2032 DNC will be decided in the coming months. If passed, the E-15 gasoline bill could change fuel regulations and impact both farmers and drivers.
