Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal wins court approval for London medical treatment
Naresh Goyal, the founder of Jet Airways, has received court approval to travel to London for medical treatment. The special PMLA court granted him a four-week leave for consultation and care. Goyal is battling serious health conditions, including cancer and severe depression. The court’s decision came despite opposition from the Enforcement Directorate. The agency argued that Goyal posed a high flight risk due to his involvement in a financial fraud case worth Rs 5,716.34 crore. However, the court ruled that access to medical treatment abroad is a fundamental human right under the Indian Constitution.
Goyal’s legal team presented evidence of his health struggles. He suffers from malignant duodenum neuroendocrine tumours and severe depression, requiring specialist care unavailable in India. The court also noted his compliance with previous bail conditions and confirmed his appointment at HCA Healthcare/Wellington Hospital in London on May 27. The court’s permission allows Goyal to seek treatment for four weeks. His travel is conditional on his return, as the case remains ongoing. The ruling underscores the recognition of medical access as a constitutional right.
