Kazakh teen found dead near Gagarin Dam after mysterious disappearance
A 17-year-old student in Kostanay went missing on 17 March 2026 after leaving his dormitory. Vladimir Orlov, who attended the Kostanay Industrial and Pedagogical College, was later found dead near the Gagarin Dam in a reed zone. Orlov vanished on the evening of 17 March, when he stopped answering calls. Authorities launched a search involving Kazakhstan's National Guard and volunteers from the REGION10 search and rescue team.
The operation ended after volunteers located Orlov's body in the reeds close to the Gagarin Dam. Police confirmed no visible signs of violent death. A criminal case has since been opened, with investigators working to clarify the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
The search for Vladimir Orlov is now over, but questions remain about how he died. Local police continue their inquiry to establish the exact events leading up to the discovery of his body.
