Kazakhstan bans smartphones in schools—parents now face fines for violations

Kazakhstan's schools are cracking down on smartphone use during lessons for the new academic year. The country's Law on Education prohibits mobile phone use in schools, with penalties for parents who fail to ensure their children comply.

Parents in Kazakhstan are now responsible for enforcing the mobile phone ban in schools. Despite the new rules, no parents have yet been penalized for violations. The Code of Administrative Offenses outlines fines for such offenses, with repeat offenders facing penalties of up to five monthly calculation indices (MCI). In 2025, this amounts to 19,660 tenge. First-time violations result in a warning, while subsequent offenses incur fines.

As the new academic year begins, Kazakhstan's schools are implementing stricter measures to limit smartphone use during lessons. Parents are urged to ensure their children adhere to the mobile phone ban to avoid potential fines.
