Kemi Badenoch compares Javier Milei’s reforms to Thatcher’s bold legacy

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has praised Argentine President Javier Milei's economic reforms, comparing him to Margaret Thatcher. Despite differing views on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, Badenoch finds Milei's approach fascinating and has defended his stance on reclaiming the islands.

Badenoch commended Milei's austerity program, which has seen Argentina's inflation plummet from nearly 300% to around 31% in just two years. The OECD predicts Argentina's growth to exceed 5% this year, reflecting the positive impact of Milei's radical reforms.

Badenoch compared Milei to Thatcher, highlighting his ability to swiftly implement reforms. She also noted that Tory frontbenchers, including Andrew Griffith, have adopted Milei's symbolic 'chainsaw' prop to represent their commitment to reducing the size of the state. Despite this, Badenoch expressed her support for British sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, while finding Milei's desire for Falkland Islanders to prefer Argentine nationality due to Argentina's growing power and libertarian agenda 'fascinating'.
