Komi Residents Vote on Urban Projects in Digital People's Budget

Residents of the Republic of Komi now have a say in shaping their city’s future. From now until June 12, anyone aged 14 or older can vote on urban improvement projects through the People’s Budget program. This year, 61 resident-led initiatives are up for funding as part of wider efforts to enhance public spaces. The voting process is fully digital, with ballots cast online via zagorodsreda.gosuslugi.ru. For those without internet access, volunteers are on hand to help submit choices in person. The push for public participation comes as the region gears up for the 250th anniversary of its capital, Syktyvkar, in 2025.

Urban development remains a key focus for local authorities. Between 2026 and 2028, 143 projects will roll out under the federal Comfortable Urban Environment initiative. One of the top priorities is the reconstruction of Kirov Park, aimed at boosting comfort and accessibility. Last year alone, 85 public spaces across Komi were upgraded through the national Infrastructure for Life project. The People’s Budget voting closes on June 12. Successful projects will receive funding to turn community ideas into reality. With ongoing federal support, more public spaces in Komi are set for transformation in the coming years.
