Late-night supermarket brawl leaves man pepper-sprayed in Stade

Stade — Emergency services received multiple calls at around 9:47 p.m. on Thursday reporting a physical altercation between four men at a Kaufland supermarket on Freiburger Straße. When police arrived, they found a 24-year-old local man sitting outside the main entrance with severely reddened eyes and face. He was being assisted by a companion, who explained that the 24-year-old had initially been involved in a verbal dispute near the checkout area with a group of three men. The confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which one of the men sprayed the victim with pepper spray. An independent witness confirmed this account.

Officers provided the victim with initial relief by rinsing his eyes. The 24-year-old appeared to be heavily under the influence of alcohol during questioning and was unable to provide coherent details. He declined further medical treatment and expressed no interest in pursuing legal action.

Since the irritant was discharged while the supermarket was open, an estimated 30 to 50 customers and employees experienced mild effects. Staff immediately ventilated the store, and no serious injuries were reported. The supermarket closed shortly after the incident as scheduled.

Police secured video footage of the altercation from the store and have launched an investigation into grievous bodily harm. Anyone with information about the three men involved in the attack is asked to contact Stade police.
