Left Party demands urgent relief as living costs spiral out of control

Heidi Reichinnek, leader of the Left Party in parliament, has urged the government to take immediate action on rising costs. She criticised current measures as insufficient and called for stronger financial support for households now—not months from now. Reichinnek described the removal of the 'relief bonus' as a direct insult to struggling families. She argued that existing aid, like the fuel discount, was too limited and often failed to reach consumers due to poor implementation.

Her proposals included a windfall tax to fund two key measures: bringing back the €9 monthly public transport ticket and introducing an energy crisis subsidy. She also pushed for a cap on corporate profit margins to stop businesses from exploiting the situation with excessive price hikes. The parliamentary leader stressed that people needed tangible relief without delay. Waiting for future solutions, she warned, would only deepen financial hardship for many.

The Left Party’s demands focus on immediate financial support and stricter controls on corporate pricing. Reichinnek’s calls for a windfall tax and profit margin limits aim to ease pressure on households facing soaring living costs. The government has yet to respond to the proposals.
