Lower Austria police reshuffle leadership with new PR and security chiefs

The Lower Austria State Police Directorate has announced key leadership changes starting next month. Manuel Scherscher will take charge of the Public Relations Office from 1 May. The appointments also include new roles for Michael Renghofer and continued duties for Roland Scherscher and Johannes Peham.

Manuel Scherscher brings 26 years of police experience to his new position. He most recently headed the Fraud and Economic Crime Division at the Federal Criminal Police Office. Alongside his policing career, he earned a law degree and developed expertise in communication strategies. His past work includes launching the Gemeinsam.Sicher (Together.Safe) initiative, which strengthened public engagement.

Roland Scherscher, with over 35 years in law enforcement, will remain as deputy state police director. His long service provides stability within the leadership team. Michael Renghofer will now lead the State Office for Protection of the Constitution and Counterextremism. He has held senior roles in both criminal investigations and intelligence services for many years. Meanwhile, Johannes Peham will stay in his current position as deputy chief of staff in the Federal Minister’s cabinet.

The changes take effect on 1 May, with Scherscher overseeing public relations and Renghofer focusing on security and extremism prevention. Both bring decades of experience to their new roles. The restructured team aims to maintain continuity while addressing evolving challenges in law enforcement.
