Macron shuts down side talks at Africa Forward summit

The 'Africa Forward' summit has gathered over 30 African leaders, business executives, and young entrepreneurs in a bid to strengthen economic and political ties with France. The event comes after recent diplomatic tensions and the withdrawal of French military forces from several West African nations. During a panel discussion titled Africa Forward: Creation in Motion, side conversations disrupted the proceedings. President Emmanuel Macron interrupted the session, criticising the noise as disrespectful. He stated that it was impossible to discuss culture in such an environment.

Macron then addressed the audience directly. He told those involved in side talks to either leave the room or use designated spaces for bilateral meetings. His words were firm: those who wished to stay had to listen to the speakers and follow the same rules. The room fell silent immediately after his intervention.

Shortly after making his point, Macron left the stage. The incident highlighted the importance of decorum at the summit. The event continues with its goal of fostering closer cooperation between France and African nations. Organisers will likely ensure stricter adherence to protocol in future sessions.
