Malaysia's journalism legends reunite to honor Adibah Amin's enduring legacy
Four of Malaysia’s most respected journalists recently visited veteran writer Adibah Amin at her home. The group included Tan Sri Johan Jaafar, Datuk Abdul Kadir Jasin and Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, all of whom hold the prestigious National Journalism Laureate award. Their visit came as Amin, 90, continues to recover from illness while remaining her usual warm and gracious self.
The gathering brought together four legends of Malaysian media, each a recipient of the National Journalism Laureate—an honour awarded to only 14 individuals since 1988. Tan Sri Johan Jaafar, Datuk Abdul Kadir Jasin and Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai spent time reminiscing with Amin about their years in journalism. Conversations turned to the changes they had witnessed in the industry over decades.
During the visit, Wong Chun Wai highlighted Amin’s influential writing on moderation and multiculturalism. Her work has long been admired for shaping public discourse in Malaysia. Despite her frail health, Amin’s spirit and kindness left a lasting impression on her guests. The visitors also took the opportunity to express their well-wishes and support. They described her as a trailblazer whose contributions to journalism and literature have left an indelible mark on the nation.
The visit underscored the deep respect Amin commands within Malaysian media circles. Her legacy as a pioneering journalist and writer continues to inspire younger generations. The gathering also served as a reminder of the enduring bonds formed through decades of shared professional experiences.
