Mamata Banerjee backs Sourav Ganguly for ICC president role in bold endorsement
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again expressed her support for former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly, this time advocating for his candidacy as the next president of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Banerjee believes that Ganguly's rise to the top post is inevitable, stating that 'it is not easy to stop Ganguly from becoming ICC president.' She praised the former captain during a felicitation ceremony at Eden Gardens, highlighting his contributions to Indian cricket. Banerjee has previously shown support for Ganguly after he was removed from the post of the BCCI president in 2022. She has questioned the decision to retain Amit Shah's son in the BCCI while denying Ganguly a second term. The current ICC president is Jay Shah, who took office in December 2024 as the youngest-ever ICC chairman. With Mamata Banerjee's continued support and confidence in his abilities, Sourav Ganguly's potential candidacy for the ICC presidency remains a topic of interest in the cricketing world. The next ICC presidential elections are yet to be announced.
