Man violently resists arrest at Osnabrück station after train disturbance
A 33-year-old man was arrested at Osnabrück station on Wednesday after violently resisting police. He had been removed from an Intercity-Express train for causing a disturbance and refusing to show identification. Officers later discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The incident began when the man became aggressive on the train. Staff called police, who boarded at Osnabrück and ordered him to leave. Instead of complying, he shouted threats and insults at the officers.
As they attempted to detain him, he struggled violently and tried to escape. He also spat at the officers, forcing them to restrain him and fit a spitting hood. A routine check then revealed he was subject to an arrest warrant. The man had failed to pay a €120 fine for a previous theft conviction. A court had already converted this into a five-day substitute prison sentence. Additionally, authorities were pursuing him for asset forfeiture linked to a separate burglary case. With no alternative, officers took him to a correctional facility to serve his sentence.
The man now faces further consequences for resisting arrest and assaulting officers. His outstanding legal issues, including the unpaid fine and asset forfeiture, remain unresolved. Police have not released details on similar incidents involving violent resistance on ICE trains in recent years.
