Memorial Stone Honoring Latvian Victim Stolen from Wöbbelin Camp Site
A memorial stone mountain has gone missing from the Wöbbelin Memorial and Remembrance Site in Ludwigslust. The theft was discovered on January 17, 2025, with authorities now investigating the incident as a disturbance of the peace of the dead.
The stolen stone carried the engraved name of Janis Stukla, a Latvian victim of the concentration camp. Staff last checked the site on January 9, 2025, and found nothing out of place at the time. The damage caused by the theft is estimated at around €200.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police treating the case as a serious offence. The public’s help is being sought to recover the stone and hold those responsible to account.
