Munich Security Conference concludes with controlled protests and minor incidents

Munich police have declared the security operation for the 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC) a success. Over the weekend, officers managed 17 assemblies and dealt with multiple incidents, including protests and disruptions. Despite challenges, most events remained under control. The largest gathering took place on Theresienwiese, where up to 250,000 people attended a demonstration focused on political developments in Iran. This event stayed largely peaceful, with no major disturbances reported.

Around 5,000 officers, including reinforcements from across Germany and neighbouring European countries, were deployed for the operation. They monitored protests, enforced security measures, and responded to incidents. Among these was a separate protest against the MSC, where roughly 2,000 participants caused disruptions.

Two officers were assaulted with kicks during a protest at Marienplatz. The suspects were quickly arrested. In total, 23 officers suffered minor injuries, while 18 others fell ill over the course of the operation. Additionally, a traffic accident on the A9 near Allershausen damaged six police vehicles and left several officers with minor injuries.

Police recorded over 20 offences linked to the MSC, including violations of the temporary no-fly zone. Despite these incidents, authorities maintained order and ensured the conference proceeded without major security breaches. The operation involved significant resources and coordination, with officers handling large crowds and isolated incidents. While minor injuries and disruptions occurred, the overall security effort was deemed effective. The conference concluded without serious threats to public safety.
