Nancy Guthrie missing case shifts from rescue to recovery after 100 days

The search for Nancy Guthrie has reached a sombre milestone. One hundred days after she went missing, authorities have adjusted their approach. The investigation remains active, but its focus has shifted from rescue to recovery. Nancy Guthrie was last seen on 31 January 2023. Her family had dropped her off at home after dinner. Ten days later, police released images of a masked intruder breaking into her house on 10 February 2023.

The initial search involved hundreds of officers and agents. Now, only a few dozen remain assigned to the case. Despite the scaled-back effort, tips continue to come in and are still being reviewed.

No digital evidence, such as camera footage or licence plate data, has been found so far. A hair sample from Guthrie’s home was sent for DNA testing, but the results have not yet been made public. Experts have suggested using genealogical sequencing and tracing licence plates in the area as possible next steps.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is still working closely with the FBI. Together, they are treating the case as active and ongoing. The investigation has now moved from a rescue operation to a recovery effort. Authorities continue to pursue leads and examine new methods. The case remains open, with both local and federal agencies involved.
