Narva swaps Victory Day for Europe Day with a cultural celebration on May 9
Narva will mark May 9 with a Europe Day celebration instead of Victory Day. The event will feature a premiere live performance, with preparations underway for a unique cultural experience. Estonian authorities have confirmed high-level attendance, including the country’s prime minister and the European Commissioner for Culture, Sports and Youth. The celebration will take place along the Narva embankment, directly opposite Ivangorod in Russia. A natural stage is formed by the river separating the Narva fortress in Estonia from the Russian town. Screens are being set up on the Russian side to broadcast a festive concert, allowing Narva residents to watch from across the water.
To accommodate visitors, organisers are arranging transport options. Whole buses will carry people to the event, with tickets starting at 80 euros for residents of Estonia and the Baltic States. A dedicated tourist route has also been created for those wishing to attend the concert in Ivangorod.
Estonian businesses have responded to the demand, offering cultural trips and excursions to Narva for the occasion. The event aims to draw attention to the shared historical and geographical significance of the location. The May 9 celebration in Narva will present a cultural programme rather than a traditional Victory Day event. With organised transport and a specially designed tourist route, it offers a new way to experience the date. The presence of senior officials underscores the importance of the occasion.
