New Fellowship Aims to Strengthen Civil Service Ahead of 2025 Shutdown Threats
Democracy Forward has launched its Democracy Works 250 initiative, selecting former civil servants as the first fellows for its 'reimagine' government project. The program aims to bolster the professional, nonpartisan civil service amidst growing threats of a government shutdown in 2025.
Kyleigh Russ, previously serving as Democracy Forward's director of good government initiatives and senior adviser of policy, now leads Democracy Works 250. The fellowship program offers a $100,000 stipend over one year. It aims to bring together diverse perspectives from various government agencies, with the inaugural fellows hailing from EPA, FEMA, NSF, and USDA.
The initiative, Democracy Forward announced earlier this year, seeks to 'reimagine and build a people-centered government and democracy'. It responds to escalating challenges faced by the civil service, ensuring its resilience and effectiveness amidst potential government shutdowns.
