Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin hosts solemn Victory Day tribute to war veterans

A solemn ceremony took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin on May 9, 2026, to honour veterans of the Great Patriotic War. Lieutenant General Yuri Arsentyev of the police joined regional officials, law enforcement representatives, and surviving war veterans for the event. The commemoration began with a memorial liturgy led by Metropolitan Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas at the Eternal Flame. Attendees then observed a moment of silence to pay respects to the fallen. Flowers were laid at the monument in remembrance.

Military personnel and police officers later paraded in formation before the veterans. The ceremony closed with a march by units of the Nizhny Novgorod Territorial Garrison across the Kremlin grounds.

The event brought together veterans, officials, and law enforcement to mark the anniversary. The laying of flowers and the march honoured those who served in the Great Patriotic War. The Kremlin ceremony served as a tribute to their sacrifice.
