Nizhny Novgorod’s cultural leaders vie for Russia’s Znaniye Award honors
Several notable figures from Nizhny Novgorod have been shortlisted for Russia’s prestigious Znaniye Award, a recognition of their significant contributions to public enlightenment. This year's nominees were chosen through a public voting process.
Among the nominees is Zakhar Prilepin, author of the book 'Tuma', who has been recognised in the 'Best Enlightenment Book' category. Sergei Novikov, a stage director at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre, and his opera 'Semen Kotko' are also nominated, for their 'Contribution to Enlightenment in Culture and the Arts'.
Gleb Nikitin, Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, has been recognised for his 'Contribution to Preserving Traditional Values' through the Istoki Youth Historical and Cultural Forum. The award features three key categories: Enlightenment Figure, Enlightenment Project, and Enlightenment Organization. Notably, two technical colleges and a branch of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (NNSU) ranked among the top 100 lecture platforms under the Znaniye program.
The Znaniye Award, now in its 15th year, continues to celebrate and encourage excellence in education, culture, and public enlightenment. The nominees from Nizhny Novgorod reflect the region's rich cultural heritage and commitment to intellectual growth.
