Novorossiysk cracks down on illegal rainbow trout trade worth 500K rubles

Authorities in Novorossiysk have halted an illegal fish-selling operation. Two men, aged 23 and 43, were caught trading rainbow trout without the required paperwork or labels. The seizure involved a large quantity of fish worth nearly half a million rubles. The operation unfolded when law enforcement discovered the pair selling unmarked salmonid fish. Officers confiscated 700 kilograms of rainbow trout, estimated at around 500,000 rubles in value. The fish lacked proper documentation and labelling, violating trade regulations.

The men now face serious legal consequences. Their actions fall under Part 4 of Article 171.1 of the Russian Criminal Code. If convicted, they could receive a prison sentence of up to six years.

The case highlights the risks of unregulated fish sales in the region. With the trout seized and charges filed, the investigation will determine the final penalties. The outcome will depend on the court’s assessment of the evidence and legal procedures.
