NOZ/mh:n Group to acquire majority stake in BruneMettcker media house

The NOZ/mh:n Group is poised to take over as the majority shareholder of BruneMettcker, a regional media house. The deal, awaiting approval from Germany’s Federal Cartel Office, will see the group acquire 50.01 percent of the company’s shares. Both sides have highlighted the move as a way to strengthen local journalism in a changing media landscape. Since 15 April 2026, BruneMettcker’s newspapers, including the Wilhelmshavener Zeitung and Jeversches Wochenblatt, have already been using the NOZ/mh:n Group’s national and international news content. This collaboration reflects a broader shift after BruneMettcker’s previous partner, Nordwest-Zeitung, joined the Madsack Media Group.

The new partnership will bring readers access to a wider content network, featuring exclusive articles from publications like Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Tagesspiegel, and heise online. BruneMettcker will also adopt the NOZ/mh:n Group’s administrative and tech systems, improving its e-paper and introducing digital formats such as the children’s podcast Ole schaut hin (Ole Takes a Look).

Jens Wegmann and Paul Wehberg, managing directors of the NOZ/mh:n Group, stressed that regional media must form strong alliances to survive. Helmut Loerts-Sabin, BruneMettcker’s managing director, added that the NOZ/mh:n Group is more than just a partner—it shares their values and provides advanced tools and support.

Despite the changes, the editorial teams of the Wilhelmshavener Zeitung and Jeversches Wochenblatt will keep producing their local news independently, ensuring continuity for their readers. The deal aims to secure the long-term future of BruneMettcker’s publications while maintaining journalistic standards. With expanded content and upgraded digital services, the partnership seeks to adapt to evolving media demands. Final approval from the Federal Cartel Office remains the next step before the changes take full effect.
