Police dog tracks down car thief after midnight break-in in Dortmund
Just before midnight, residents witnessed two men breaking into a vehicle and rifling through its interior. Shortly afterward, the pair fled in a southerly direction.
Moments later, a police dog handler arrived at the scene with his four-legged colleague "Jack" and immediately set him on the fresh trail.
In the street "An den Bräukerhöfen," police dog "Jack" tracked down and apprehended one of the suspects, allowing officers to take the 23-year-old Dortmund man into custody without resistance—a wise choice, as "Jack" is not only a trained tracking dog but also a certified protection dog. In short: If the suspect is cooperative, he gets a bark; if he resists, he gets a bite.
The young man was then taken in for identification procedures. He now faces criminal charges for aggravated theft from a motor vehicle.
