After the welcome remarks, the highlight for visitors is always the chance to step into the chamber—though instead of 230 lawmakers, the seats are filled by citizens of all ages.

For some, it's a return visit; for others, a first glimpse inside the halls of power. Even the host recalls the first time he walked through the doors of the institution he now leads.

The day featured 17 activities, from concerts to poetry readings. But this year, the real novelty was tailored for children.

José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, President of the Assembly of the Republic, emphasized that this house belongs to both politicians and citizens—and its strength depends on everyone's participation.
