Primorsky Krai cracks down as foreign entry rejections surge 2,700% in two years
Primorsky Krai has seen a sharp rise in foreign nationals being denied entry over the past three years. In 2023, only 32 people were turned away, but by 2025, that number had jumped to 899. The surge follows stricter migration controls introduced in the region. The region's authorities implemented a dual system combining tight oversight with legal recruitment channels. Foreign specialists in sectors with labour shortages now face pre-employment checks and remain under employer supervision. Meanwhile, undocumented migrants and those hiring them illegally—including Russian employers—have become targets of law enforcement raids.
In 2025, 1,786 foreigners were deported for violating migration laws. Most of those denied entry came from Central Asian countries. Officials stated that rejections occur when documents or behaviour suggest potential security risks. The stricter measures appear to have had an effect. By the second half of 2025, the overall influx of migrants into Primorsky Krai had noticeably declined. Authorities also reported improvements in the region's crime situation.
