A 74-year-old attorney was shot and killed in Baltimore County on Saturday afternoon. Police have arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting, which took place in a residential area of Phoenix, Maryland. The victim was identified as Robert MacMeekin, a lawyer at the Fine, Kelly & MacMeekin firm. The incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. in the 14000 block of Sawmill Court. Emergency responders pronounced MacMeekin dead at the scene.

Mark Ryan, the suspect, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Authorities later charged him with first-degree murder. Court records show Ryan is currently being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. MacMeekin had a long legal career, graduating from Michigan State University before earning his law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1975. A bail review hearing for Ryan has been set for Monday, May 4.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. Ryan will appear in court next week for a bond review. MacMeekin’s death has left colleagues and the local legal community in shock.
