Putin and Trump set for back-to-back Beijing visits amid global tensions

Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning a visit to China, with the exact dates to be announced jointly by both nations. The trip was initially set for late March but faced delays due to rising tensions with Iran. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump remains firm on his own upcoming travel to Beijing in mid-May. Putin’s visit to China was originally scheduled for March 31 to April 2. However, the escalating situation involving Iran led to a postponement. Officials from both Russia and China will now confirm the new timing together.

Separately, Trump is set to arrive in Beijing on May 14–15 for discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that Trump has no intention of delaying this trip again. The White House has not indicated any changes to the planned dates.

The two visits highlight ongoing diplomatic engagement between China and major global powers. Putin’s rescheduled trip and Trump’s confirmed meeting with Xi Jinping will take place within weeks of each other. Both events are expected to focus on bilateral relations and regional security concerns.
