Putin extends Rosfinmonitoring chief's term for sixth time

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended Yuri Chikhanchin’s term as director of Rosfinmonitoring until June 17, 2027. This marks the sixth time his leadership has been prolonged, reinforcing his long-standing role in the agency. Born on June 17, 1951, in Krasnoyarsk, Chikhanchin began his career in security agencies, working from 1978 to 1994. He later led the East Siberian Regional Department of the Federal Service for Currency and Export Control from 1994 to 2000.

From 2000 to 2002, he oversaw the currency control department at the Ministry of Finance. His experience grew further as deputy head of Rosfinmonitoring between 2004 and 2007. In May 2008, he took charge of the agency and has held the position ever since. Educated at the Siberian Technological Institute, graduating in 1974, Chikhanchin now enters his 18th year at the helm of Rosfinmonitoring.

The extension keeps Chikhanchin in office for another five years. His decades of experience in financial oversight and security roles continue to shape Russia’s anti-money laundering and financial intelligence efforts. The decision reflects ongoing confidence in his leadership.
