Russian sales manager accused of embezzling $6,700 from clients
A 44-year-old trainee sales manager in Nizhny Novgorod is facing fraud charges after allegedly stealing over 614,000 rubles ($6,700) from clients. The Investigative Department of the Russian Interior Ministry has completed its probe and forwarded the case to court for trial.
The man worked for a woodworking company when he reportedly took advance payments from 13 customers. Instead of delivering the promised goods, he admitted to using the money at a bookmaker’s office.
Authorities have charged him under Part 2 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers fraud. The indictment, approved by prosecutors, now moves to court for proceedings.
If convicted, the defendant could receive a prison sentence of up to six years. The trial will determine whether the stolen funds will be recovered and what penalties will apply. The case highlights the risks of financial misconduct in business transactions.
