Saarland adopts wage agreement for civil servants - Saarland extends full pay deal to all public sector workers
Saarland Premier Rehlinger Acknowledges Financial Challenge but Emphasizes Appreciation for Civil Servants
Saarland will apply the public sector pay agreement to civil servants, pensioners, and annuitants "in full and without delay," the State Chancellery in Saarbrücken announced. Premier Anke Rehlinger (SPD) stressed that this move represents "not a given, but a major financial effort" for the state. However, she emphasized that civil servants also deserve recognition.
Timo Ahr, chair of the DGB Saarland trade union federation, likewise called the extension of the wage deal a "clear signal of respect and appreciation." At a time "when some political forces are constantly attacking and calling into question the welfare state, it is an important statement that the state government recognizes the value of a strong public sector," he underscored.
Christian Umlauf, district manager of the Verdi Saar-Trier region, echoed this sentiment. "The swift decision to extend the pay agreement to civil servants sends an important message: here, politicians are keeping their word and taking action," he said. The move, he added, is a clear statement: "The work of civil servants in this state is valued."
