Sabah's RM300M Sheraton Hotel Leads Major Tourism Expansion Ahead of 2026–2027 Campaigns

Sabah is set to expand its tourism sector with several major hotel developments on the horizon. These projects, including the RM300 million Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, will add 2,740 rooms to the state’s existing inventory. The move comes as Sabah prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and its own Visit Sabah Year 2027.

The new hotels include well-known brands such as Avani, Fairfield by Marriott, and Club Med. Grandis at The Peninsula, InterContinental, and Wyndham will also join the line-up. Together, they aim to boost Sabah’s appeal as a top-tier destination for conferences, corporate events, and leisure travellers.

The Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, in particular, will highlight Sabah’s culture, heritage, and hospitality. State leaders believe these developments will create hundreds of jobs and open opportunities across supply chains and related industries. To strengthen tourism further, Sabah’s government is working on key strategies. These include partnering with global airlines to improve connectivity, developing premium tourism products, and raising service standards. High-value events will also be hosted to attract more visitors. Despite concerns over the Middle East conflict affecting travel, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor remains confident in Sabah’s tourism resilience. The state’s tourism ministry has already taken steps to ensure Sabah stays competitive as a global destination.

The hotel projects align with Sabah’s long-term tourism goals, offering both economic growth and enhanced visitor experiences. With new accommodations and improved infrastructure, the state is positioning itself as a leading destination for travellers and business events alike.
