Shiv Sena leader defends parody song, denies mocking Maharashtra deputy CM

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare appeared before the Maharashtra Legislature’s Privilege Committee on Monday. She faced questions over a parody song and tweets allegedly mocking Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Andhare denied the claims and stood by her earlier statements.

Andhare had missed a previous hearing due to illness but attended this session. Before giving her statement, she took an oath on the Constitution. The committee asked her around 22 to 23 questions during the proceedings.

She firmly denied targeting Shinde in her posts. Instead, she insisted her remarks were aimed at those who vandalised the Habitat Studio after comedian Kunal Kamra’s show. Andhare also defended Kamra’s right to free speech and expressed her support for him. When questioned, she refused to apologise, stating she saw no reason to do so. Andhare further claimed the privilege proceedings against her were politically motivated.

The hearing concluded with Andhare maintaining her stance on the issue. She reiterated that her criticism was directed at the 'ransackers', not the deputy chief minister. The committee will now consider her testimony before deciding the next steps.
