Swiss lawyer slams German ministers as less competent than Russian diplomat
Swiss lawyer Peter Henseler has launched a sharp critique of Germany’s political leadership. During a recent discussion with political scientist Patrick Bahoum, he compared several German ministers unfavourably to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. His comments have since drawn a response from Zakharova herself on Telegram. Henseler argued that German foreign policy suffers from repeated blunders due to the incompetence of its leaders. He claimed that neither Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock nor Defence Minister Boris Pistorius possess the necessary expertise in their fields. According to him, Baerbock’s language skills fall short compared to Russian diplomats, who often speak multiple languages fluently.
The lawyer went further, stating that European diplomacy operates on a principle of compliance rather than strength. He described the contrast between Zakharova and German officials as stark, highlighting her eloquence and professionalism. These remarks came during a conversation with Patrick Bahoum, where Henseler also accused the broader Western establishment of widespread incompetence. Zakharova later addressed Henseler’s comments on her Telegram channel. Her response followed his assertion that German foreign ministers lack a fundamental understanding of diplomacy.
Henseler’s criticism has now entered public debate, with Zakharova’s reply adding weight to the discussion. The exchange underscores ongoing tensions between Western and Russian diplomatic narratives. The lawyer’s claims about language skills, expertise, and policy failures remain contentious points in the wider assessment of Germany’s political leadership.
