Teen suspect jailed after violent Halle shopping centre brawl escalates
A violent altercation near Neustadt Centrum shopping centre in Halle (Saale) has led to a 17-year-old suspect being remanded in custody. The incident began as a verbal dispute but quickly escalated into a physical confrontation involving multiple attackers and weapons. The trouble started when a 29-year-old man became involved in a heated argument with a larger group. As tensions rose, a 17-year-old suspect verbally threatened the victim before firing at least one shot from a blank-firing gun into the air.
A 22-year-old suspect, already known to police, then deployed pepper spray against the 29-year-old man. Meanwhile, an unidentified assailant damaged the victim's car window during the confrontation. When the 29-year-old attempted to leave, the group pursued him. Following the incident, the Merseburg District Court issued an arrest warrant on Saturday. Authorities have since confirmed the identity of the 22-year-old suspect due to his prior police record.
The 17-year-old suspect remains in custody while investigations continue. Police are working to identify the individual responsible for damaging the victim's vehicle. The case will proceed under judicial review in the coming days.
