Thomas Dückers unanimously elected Viersen's First Deputy Mayor
Thomas Dückers has been named First Deputy Mayor of Viersen after a unanimous vote by the city council. The appointment marks a return to his home district, where he was born and raised. Mayor Christoph Hopp personally congratulated him on the new role.
Dückers brings nearly a decade of local government experience to the position. Since 2015, he served as First Deputy Mayor and city treasurer in Korschenbroich. There, he managed key areas including budget and finance, public order, education, youth and sports, and social services.
In Viersen, Dückers will act as the mayor’s general representative. He will also take over Department II, easing the workload of Deputy Mayor Ertunç Deniz, who had been handling the duties temporarily. During the council meeting, Dückers thanked members for their confidence in his leadership.
The city council’s decision reflects strong support for Dückers’ track record. His financial and administrative expertise is expected to drive progress in Viersen’s administration. The role officially begins as he steps into both the deputy mayor position and the management of Department II.
