Train kills three cows after fence failure near Gaildorf railway
A regional train struck and killed three cows near Gaildorf after they wandered onto the tracks. The animals had escaped from a nearby pasture due to a damaged fence. Authorities are now investigating the incident as a risk to railway safety. Nine cows broke free from a cattle pasture when part of the fence gave way. Four were quickly rounded up by the owner, but two remained missing for some time. The rest wandered onto the railway line between Gaildorf West and Schwäbisch Hall.
The train driver spotted the animals and sounded the warning whistle. An emergency brake was applied, yet the collision could not be avoided. Three cows were killed instantly, though all 13 passengers on board escaped without injury. The line was shut down until Wednesday morning while crews cleared the scene. Police have since launched an inquiry into the cattle owner for allegedly endangering railway traffic.
The tracks have since reopened, but the incident has raised concerns over livestock security near railways. The owner now faces potential charges, while the two missing cows were later accounted for. No further disruptions to train services have been reported.
