Between February 2 and February 10, 2026, police in Uelzen district recorded a total of five burglaries and attempted break-ins in Bad Bevensen, Barum, and Bienenbüttel. Following detailed forensic investigations, detectives from the Uelzen Criminal Investigation Department took over the case. A further incident occurred on March 23, 2026, in Seedorf (see press release dated March 24, 2026).

Extensive investigative work led to two men becoming prime suspects. After consulting with the Lüneburg Public Prosecutor's Office, an arrest warrant was issued for one of the identified offenders.

On the morning of March 25, 2026, investigators confirmed that a getaway car linked to the crimes had reappeared in the region. Officers subsequently arrested two male occupants at a gas station in Uelzen district. One of the men, aged 29, was the previously identified suspect. Both he and the 43-year-old passenger were taken into police custody. Initial investigations revealed that the 43-year-old was residing in Germany illegally. The vehicle was seized, and officers found narcotics, mobile phones, and cash in the suspects' possession. Documents discovered were determined to be high-quality forgeries.

A subsequent search of the 29-year-old's apartment in Kiel uncovered stolen property linked to one of the burglaries. Investigators are now determining which break-ins in Uelzen district and surrounding areas the two Kiel-based suspects may be responsible for. Analysis of the confiscated phones is ongoing.

On March 26, 2026, both men were brought before a magistrate, who issued remand orders. They have since been transferred to correctional facilities.
