Ufa Mayor Forced to Submit DNA Samples After Release From Detention
Ufa Mayor Ratmir Mavliyev was forced to provide hair and saliva samples just after his release from pretrial detention. The procedure took place immediately at the exit of the detention centre. Authorities collected the samples to enter his genetic data into law enforcement’s genomic database.
Mavliyev had been held in pretrial detention since late April on charges of bribery and abuse of office. On release, his legal status changed after the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan altered his restrictions. Instead of detention, he now faces house arrest until June 28.
As he left the detention facility, officers took the biological samples without delay. His lawyer, Marat Samoilov, has challenged the move, arguing it breaches the Constitution and criminal procedure laws.
The forced sampling adds to Mavliyev’s legal troubles while under house arrest. His defence team continues to contest the procedure’s legality. The case remains under scrutiny as the investigation proceeds.
