UK deploys HMS Prince of Wales in NATO's largest Arctic naval drills
The UK has announced a major naval deployment led by HMS Prince of Wales, the Royal Navy’s flagship. Accompanied by HMS Duncan and RFA Tidespring, the task group will take part in exercises across the North Atlantic and High North. The mission underscores Britain’s dedication to NATO and regional security partnerships. The deployment begins with swarm attack drills near Bergen as part of Exercise Tamber Shield. This phase will test the group’s ability to counter fast, coordinated threats in coastal waters.
Following this, the ships will join Dynamic Mongoose, NATO’s largest anti-submarine warfare exercise in Northern Europe. The training will involve close cooperation with allied navies, focusing on tracking and neutralising underwater threats.
HMS Duncan brings advanced air defence capabilities to the Carrier Strike Group, enhancing protection for the fleet. Meanwhile, RFA Tidespring will provide essential logistical support, ensuring the task group remains operational throughout the mission.
The exercises will also include joint operations with the Joint Expeditionary Force, a UK-led coalition of ten northern European nations. These drills aim to improve interoperability and resilience in an increasingly unstable security environment. The deployment reinforces the UK’s role in safeguarding Europe’s northern flank. By training alongside NATO and partner nations, the Royal Navy strengthens collective defence capabilities. The mission highlights the importance of integrated operations in maintaining regional stability.
