Uncovering Duisburg's Jewish History: Free Event on November 13

On November 13, 2023, Johanna Ritzel will present her master's thesis at the 'DenkStätte' in the Duisburg City Archives. The event, titled 'Flight and Emigration of Duisburg's Jews', is free to attend and does not require registration, but spaces are limited to 60 participants.

Ritzel's work explores the experiences of Duisburg's Jewish men and women during the Nazi era, focusing on when and why they fled or emigrated, where they went, and how personal factors like origin, age, and gender influenced their decisions. This is the first systematic study since 1986, challenging the common narrative of Jews as passive victims.

Ritzel's presentation will share individual biographies, providing a personal perspective on the choices people made to leave or stay. The event is part of ongoing discussions about migration, flight, and displacement, with the decision to stay or leave being a central theme.

Join Johanna Ritzel on November 13, 2023, at 6:15 PM to learn about the flight and emigration of Duisburg's Jews. This free event offers a unique insight into the personal stories and motivations behind these historic movements.
