Unsolved California Homicide Leaves Florida Man Dead After Blunt Force Trauma
San Bernardino police are investigating the unsolved killing of a Florida man found dead in California last month. Mario Brooks, in his early 40s, had been working in the state temporarily when his body was discovered on 22 July 2024. Authorities have yet to identify a suspect or motive in the case. Brooks was last seen at the Candlewood Suites hotel in Loma Linda. His body was later found roughly 11 miles away, in an empty field near Duffy Street and Donald Street. Firefighters from the San Bernardino Fire Department extinguished a blaze at the scene before discovering his remains.
An autopsy confirmed that Brooks died from blunt force trauma, not the fire. Detective Mark Alvarez is leading the investigation and has asked the public for any information that could help. Police have released no further details about Brooks' activities in California or his family.
The case remains open, with no arrests made so far. Investigators continue to seek witnesses or evidence linked to Brooks' death. Anyone with information has been urged to contact the San Bernardino Police Department.
