Ural State Agrarian University appoints new acting rector after high-level review
On April 22, during a working visit to Yekaterinburg, Ksenia Shevelkina, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, visited the Ural State Agrarian University.
At the meeting, she introduced the university staff to Mikhail Flyagin, who has been appointed acting rector. She thanked the former rector, Olga Lorets, for her contributions to the development of the Ural State Agrarian University and emphasized that the appointment of a new leader marks the beginning of a new chapter for the institution. The discussion then continued in an open dialogue format, focusing on the key challenges facing the university.
"I urge all of you to pay close attention to the tasks that Mikhail Alexandrovich will set in the very near future," Shevelkina addressed the staff. She also noted that she plans to regularly visit the Ural capital to oversee the university's implementation of planned initiatives in the interests of the country's agribusiness sector.
Mikhail Flyagin is a graduate of the Ural Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. He has dedicated over 15 years to public service in Sverdlovsk Oblast. His career began in 2006 as an assistant to the head of the Governor's Administration, later becoming an advisor. In 2012, he moved to the position of deputy head of the oversight department, and in 2016, he was appointed to lead the department responsible for monitoring the implementation of directives from federal government agencies within the regional government. After gaining extensive experience in public administration, Flyagin transitioned to higher education. Until recently, he served as vice-rector at the Ural State Medical University, overseeing strategic development and international cooperation.
During the visit, Ksenia Shevelkina—along with Ivan Yuruten, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Personnel Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, and Anna Kuznetsova, Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Consumer Markets of Sverdlovsk Oblast—reviewed the current operations of the Ural State Agrarian University. Representatives from federal and regional authorities inspected key university facilities, including academic and research classrooms, innovation laboratories, educational centers, student spaces, dormitories, and other infrastructure.
