UW System launches search for new president with interim leader in place
The University of Wisconsin system is searching for a new president. A committee has been formed to lead the effort. In the meantime, Renee Wachter has been named interim president. Sen. Rob Hutton has raised concerns about the removal of former President Jay Rothman. He criticised the lack of documentation supporting the Regents’ decision.
The search committee is now in place. Regent Ashok Rai leads the group. It includes chancellors from various UW schools and several regents.
Renee Wachter, current chancellor of UW-Superior, will serve as interim president. She is the senior-most chancellor in the system. Her appointment has been praised for her experience, judgment, and deep understanding of the institution. The system moves forward with its leadership transition. Wachter’s interim role begins immediately. The search for a permanent president is now underway.
